Langkawi is split into two distinct groups of Islands, the heavily tourist populated southern islands and the far more secluded north east. Milky white beaches with seemingly unending stretches of untouched coastline are lined with resteraunts and bars ideal for watching the sunset over the straights of Malacca.
Langkawi is an archipelago of 104 islands 30Km off the coast of Malaysia in the Andaman sea. Historically believed to be cursed the prime minister of Malaysia decided to develop it into a tourist resort and this was achieved in 1986. Today Langkawi enjoys ‘Duty Free’ status and in 2007 the island was awarded ‘World Geopark’ status by UNESCO and its 3 main natural parks form the most popular source of tourism to the islands.
The main attraction of Langkawi is its unspoilt beaches where warm tropical seas meet vivid green rainforest. Visitors can take the Langkawi cable car to the peak of Gunung Mat Chinchang where they can walk across the canopy of the lush rainforest via the spectacular Sky Bridge affording magnificent views of the surrounding area.
