Itinerary

When does my tour start?

This is a private tour and the tour time will be set to fit in with your arrival time.

When do I return to port after my tour/excursion?

The tour is 8 hours in length so you will be returned in plenty of time for your cruise ship departure. All tour times are based on Shore time (i.e. local time, - not ship time)

THIS IS A PRIVATE TOUR

You will be met at the port of Greenock by a Cruising Excursions representative who will then guide you to your air conditioned transportation ready to commence your tour.

Imagine spending a day walking through the castle where they filmed Monty Python, Outlander and Game of Thrones, sipping some amazing single malt whisky after touring a traditional distillery and walking along the shore of the longest inland stretch of water in Great Britain. If this sounds like a fun day then why not join our 8-hour tour of the Trossachs, Loch Lomond and Doune Castle.

Starting from the Greenock Port at 9am, you will be welcomed by our experienced driver guide who will take you on a journey you will never forget. You will head east out Greenock and over the Erskine Bridge towards the shores of Loch Lomond. Loch Lomond is the longest inland body of water in Great Britain and you will have the chance to take a stroll along its beautiful shore looking for that perfect opportunity to take a pic. The Loch dominates the Trossachs National Park and is commonly known as Rob Roy country. Rob Roy was an 18th century outlaw sometimes known as the “Scottish Robin Hood”.  Having been born and bred in this area, he had his lands seized by the 1st Duke of Montrose and famously waged a private blood feud against the Duke. Rob Roy’s feats live on in legend and remain folklore throughout this area.

Moving on from the shores of the Loch we will head towards the magnificent 14th century Doune Castle. Upon arrival at Doune Castle you will have the opportunity to take an audio tour where you can hear tales of the making of Monty Python and the Holy Grail which is narrated by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame. If you wish to bypass the audio tour you can take in the nature trail within the castle grounds. The castle has been used in the TV series Outlander as well as more recently for the world famous Game of Thrones. Whatever your fancy, you will find something at Doune Castle to keep you occupied.

From Doune Castle we take a short drive into Doune itself, where we will stop for approximately 1 hour at the famous Scottish Antiques and Art Centre. This award winning centre has antiques, art, information, designer fashions and a large food hall, where you can enjoy a well-earned bite to eat after you have worn yourself out gazing at the amazing items for sale.

From the antiques and art centre we will move on towards the famous Deanston Distillery which is a short distance down the road. Deanston Distillery sits on the banks of the River Teith and is famous for its Single Malt. Here you have the opportunity to take the distillery tour which lasts approx. 50 minutes, and if you take the tour you can enjoy a wee dram at the end to sample the fantastic drop that is available. If you do not wish to take the tour, you are most welcome to sit and enjoy refreshments in the distilleries own café and enjoy one last refreshment before we board the bus for our return Journey to Greenock

Tour Highlights:

  • Loch Lomond
  • Doune Castle
  • Deanston Distillery
