You will be met at the port by a Cruising Excursions representative who will then guide you to your air conditioned transportation ready to commence your tour.
Montenegro is a country in South East Europe and its geography ranges from high peaks along its borders to the north, beautiful lakes and gorgeous coastal regions to the south. Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro and is an old Mediterranean port surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. The town is extremely beautiful and is fast becoming a popular tourist destination.
Enjoy a guided tour of the 4.5 km of ancient walls which sit directly above the city and be sure to bring your camera as the views from the walls are simply spectacular. You will then take a boat ride to Perast, an old town in the Bay of Kotor. Perast lies beneath the hill of St Elijah and near Perast there are two islets; St George and Our lady of the Rocks. Whilst in Perast you will learn about the ancient fishing culture of the town and about the legend surrounding the islets which lie off the coast.
You will continue to the islet of Our Lady of the Rocks – an artificial island created by rocks and old sunken ships. Legend has it that the islet was built up over centuries by fisherman who believed they had found the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock and so whenever they returned from sea, they would throw another rock onto the area and so the islet was formed.
The islet has a Roman Catholic Church on it with a museum and gift shop attached. The church contains 68 paintings by a famous Baroque artist from Perast and also houses a collection of silver votive tablets and some pieces of tapestry.
This is a wonderful tour for anyone looking to learn more about the myth and legend surrounding this beautiful country. The panoramic scenery from the boat ride to Perast will take your breath away and the gift shop on the islet will give you the perfect opportunity to purchase a unique and personal souvenir or gift.
You will be returned to the cruise port in plenty of time for your cruise ship's departure.
