The history of Albania can be dated right back to prehistoric times with several fossils and artefacts from this era found. The geography of Albania is made up of many lakes, mountains and rough terrain making much of the country unspoilt. In recent years Albania has become a major tourist destination with thousands of Europeans visiting each year. The areas along the coast of the country have become more built up with better facilities and amazing hotels being built to accommodate. There are two major cities in Albania – Tirana the capital and Durres which is most popular with visitors.

Located on the Albanian Riviera, Saranda is an important tourist destination in Albania and is where most people visit whilst in Albania. The area of Saranda has a beautiful Mediterranean climate and is situated right on the coast, whilst here you can explore the city at your leisure, shop in the beautiful boutiques and souvenir shops and take home a souvenir or two!

Nearby Saranda is the ancient city of Gjirokastra a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The characteristic houses resemble the towers which were built one above the other. We will then visit the Gjirokaster Castle which houses the National Museum of Weapons which preserves all kinds of weapons used and produced by Albanians from antiquity. 

We will then visit the Ethnographic Museum before heading back to the cruise port.
