Itinerary

Meet and greet at the port of Holyhead

You will be met at the port of Holyhead by your Cruising Excursions representative who will then guide you to your transportation ready to commence your tour.

Your tour will commence with a journey through Anglesey, an island off the North West coast of Wales with Snowdonia in the background, to cross the Menai Strait and to Caernarfon with its famous castle dating back to 1283, the prime focus of this tour.

Standing at the mouth of the Seiont River, the fortress with its unique polygonal towers, intimidating battlements and colour-banded masonry dominates the walled town.

Of the four castles in northern Wales built by order of Edward I, Caernarfon Castle is the most magnificent. The grandeur Caernarfon Castle displays signifies King Edward I's intent that it should serve as the powerful seat of English government in Wales.  It is said to have been designed to echo the walls of Constantinople, the imperial power of Rome and the dream-castle, ‘the fairest that ever man saw’, of Welsh myth and legend.

Caernarfon’s symbolic status was emphasized when Edward made sure that his son, the first Prince of Wales, was born here in 1284 and a statue of King Edward II can be seen above the entrance at the King’s Gate.  In more recent times the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles was crowned Prince of Wales here in 1969.

Visit inside the once impregnable castle and explore its magnificent ruins with your professional English speaking guide, who will be exploring the castle along with giving you the historical information of this grand site. There will be some free time after the guided visit of the castle, to shop or explore at your leisure before re-boarding your coach and returning to the ship in Holyhead.
