You will be met at the cruise port by your Cruising Excursions representative ready for your tour to begin.
Your 90-minute journey to the start of your hike will begin from the cruise port as you sit back and relax whilst you discover all that Nicaragua has to offer. Hear all about its rich history and culture before arriving at the foot of Cerro Negro.
This new volcano is the youngest in Central America having first appeared in 1850. This active volcano consists of a gravelly basaltic cinder cone which contrasts greatly with the surrounding hillsides. Hence its name meaning the Black Hill.
Since its first eruption in April 1850, it has frequently erupted ever since. With its last eruption in 1999, it has erupted around 23 times. Despite Cerro Negro being the youngest of the volcanoes it has been one of the most active.
After advice and instructions from your guide you will start your hike.
Hike over the rocky trails, the black coverage of sands and ashes gives this volcano its name. Vegetation is most rare as the sulphur smoke makes it difficult to flourish.
Reach its highest points and indulge in the magnificent views.
Come to the rim of its several craters before getting to the summit where the pictures of your adventure can be taken as you conquer the youngest volcano in Nicaragua.
Returning to the base of Cerro Negro will be as challenging as the hike to the top. After some rest we will safely return to your transportation.
With your 90 minutes journey back to Corinto you can rest your legs as you prepare to leave the area and head back to the cruise port.
With your tour now at a close you will be taken back to the cruise port in plenty of time for your ship’s departure.
